Aquamarine is a Precious Gemstone
Aquamarine is a semi-precious gemstone and a blue to blue-green variety of Beryl, belonging to the same mineral family as Emerald. Its characteristic colour is produced mainly by traces of iron within the crystal structure.
The name Aquamarine comes from the Latin aqua marina, meaning “water of the sea,” a reference to its clear ocean-blue appearance. Fine Aquamarine is especially valued for its transparency, clarity and clean blue colour, ranging from pale icy blue to deeper blue-green tones.
Some of the world's largest Aquamarine crystals have been discovered in Brazil, which remains one of its most important sources. Significant deposits are also found in Pakistan, Nigeria, Madagascar, Mozambique, Russia and the United States.
